As a first-generation American citizen whose parents were born in Barbados, Attorney Atherley has a unique perspective on immigration issues and a passion for assisting individuals and families throughout central Florida and the surrounding communities.

In addition to her work in the world of immigration law, she is also a trusted legal advisor for those who need to take legal action. Whether it pertains to recovering after a personal injury or dealing with tough family law issues, including divorce, child custody and adoption, Attorney Atherley is committed to providing each of her clients with high-quality service, sound legal advice, and practical solutions.

After earning her Bachelor of Science degree in Criminology from Florida State University, Attorney Atherley worked in her community as a police officer. She later became an agent with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE), where she conducted protective operations for former Florida Governor, Charlie Crist.

Attorney Atherley advanced her legal career by obtaining her Juris Doctor degree from Florida A&M University College of Law in Orlando, Florida.  While pursuing her Juris Doctor degree, Attorney Atherley served as a judicial intern in the Family Law Division of the 18th Judicial Circuit in Seminole County, Florida.  She also worked as a Guardian ad Litem legal intern through her university’s legal clinic, advocating on behalf of abused, abandoned, and neglected children throughout the Central Florida area. Attorney Atherley also studied comparative and international law at the University of Western Cape in Cape Town, South Africa, through Howard University School of Law’s Study Abroad Program.

Prior to establishing the Atherley Law Firm, Attorney Atherley served in an immigration clerkship position with the Immigration Department of the Caribbean Women’s Health Association (CWHA), where she assisted with matters such as visas, green cards, DACA, naturalization and citizenship.

In her free time, Attorney Atherley enjoys spending time with family and friends, and is a regular at her local gym. She also enjoys international travel, including visiting her parents’ home country of Barbados. Marisa especially loves sports, and is a huge fan of Florida State University football, the Indianapolis Colts, and the Miami Heat.

Attorney Atherley is licensed to practice law in the State of Florida and is also a Florida Supreme Court Certified Family Mediator and Florida Supreme Court Qualified Arbitrator.
